No. 07 · In honour of imprisoned sailors

TCG Hasdal

A room with kitchenette and terrace, named in tribute to "TCG Hasdal" and a poem by Admiral Semih Çetin.

The story behind the name

TCG Hasdal

This room is dedicated to the 134 Turkish naval officers tried in the Balyoz case; the names in its title (TCG Hasdal, Mamak, Silivri, Hadımköy, Sincan, Maltepe, Şirinyer) are the places where they were held. It carries a poem by Admiral Semih Çetin, reproduced below in its original Turkish. In it, the sea and the wind the sailors once fought embrace them again: their bodies are still captive, but their souls have set sail for freedom.

Ne yaman leventlerdi, zindanlara kapattılar onları.Dere oldu,Irmak oldu, nehir oldu ulaştı denizeadaletin döktüğü kanları...Doğa ile ölümüne savaştıkları,öfkeyle kükreyen rüzgârın,ağzından köpükler saçankudurmuş dalgaların vatanı,yine eskisi gibi kucakladı onları.Bedenleri hâlâ tutsak amaözgürlüğe yelken açtı ruhları...
