How to Get to Bozcaada from Geyikli: A Ferry Guide

The island you see across the water from the garden of Chiyanno's Inn is Bozcaada (Tenedos). With its vineyards, wind turbines, whitewashed streets and Ayazma beach it is one of the best-loved islands of the North Aegean — and from Dalyan village it is easy enough for a day trip.

Where does the ferry leave from?

Bozcaada ferries leave from Geyikli (Yükyeri) pier, about a 10-minute drive from the guesthouse. The route is run by GESTAŞ; the crossing takes roughly 35 minutes and the ferry carries both foot passengers and vehicles.

A little history: Odunluk pier

In the early days the only way to Bozcaada was from Odunluk pier in Dalyan village, aboard small island fishing boats that could carry just two or three cars. Exposed to strong winds, the pier was eventually closed and Yükyeri pier took over in the late 1990s. Odunluk's little square is still a lovely sunset stroll.

Timetables and tickets

Departures follow a summer and a winter timetable, with more sailings in summer and extra ones at weekends. Times and fares change often, so please check the GESTAŞ website or call centre (444 0 752) before you go. Tickets are sold online and at the Geyikli ticket office; return tickets are issued on the Geyikli side.

Ideas for your first day on the island

• Take one of the first morning sailings — Ayazma and Sulubahçe beaches are quiet before noon.
• Save the castle and the old town for the afternoon; the streets of the old Greek quarter glow at sunset.
• The island is famous for its vineyards and wine houses; if you plan a tasting, note your return ferry time first.
• Back in Geyikli on the evening ferry, watch the lights of Bozcaada from the guesthouse terrace.
